Rolli Powers Thriving Journalism

At a time of shrinking newsrooms, faster deadlines, and widespread misinformation, it has become increasingly important that journalists have access to the support they need, including the latest technology, to do their jobs effectively and efficiently, helping to create sustainable new models for news.

This is why Glen Nelson Center made a Horizon Fund investment with Rolli, a Santa Monica-based AI journalism company that seeks to reshape the media landscape by helping journalists do their jobs more effectively. This early-stage investment is one of Glen Nelson Center’s first commitments to Press Forward, a national movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news.

A 2023 Next Challenge finalist, Rolli's groundbreaking Newsroom as a Service® platform intends to empower journalists with AI newsgathering resources and a database of vetted experts and organizations.

"This investment from Glen Nelson Center is a validation of our vision for Rolli,” said Nick Toso, founder of Rolli. “Our aim is to empower journalists with the tools and resources needed for factual, impactful reporting. We're thrilled to partner with an organization that shares our commitment to reinventing media for the public good."

Glen Nelson Center's investment in Rolli is a bold statement supporting and promoting goals of sustainable journalism that serves the public. It also marks a strong start for Press Forward, advancing the coalition’s directive to accelerate the enabling environment for news production and dissemination.

"Rolli's innovative approach to connecting journalists with expert sources is the kind of solution we believe can help transform the media industry,” said Jeff Freeland Nelson, executive director of Glen Nelson Center. “This investment aligns with our commitment to support ventures that work to provide equitable access to news gathering and delivery, fostering renewed civic engagement."
